Was unjustly hanged for a murder he did not commit.

Obituary:

He was as tall and as stubborn as a 6'2 tree. Ruddy and rough around the edges. Octavius was a man destined for death. 

It was a cold moonless night when Octavius passed with a snap. He was attempting to rescue a child whom the town had believed was a witch's child. Through deduction, information gathering, and a little divine trickery he arrived at the 'secret hiding spot' shortly before the mob had arrived. The child had killed a man in self defense. He had detected no magic nor evil but he removed a curse from the child. He helped the child escape from a back window and stayed to convince the townsmen the truth [He also could not fit through the window].

The truth was not heard that day. Octavius stood in front of a bloodthirsty crowd with a corpse at his own feet.

The child was taken into the care of his party while he was taken into the care of the angry mob. He saw over the crowd of hatred, into the eyes of the mage whom was casting a large and devastating spell he had seen time and time again. He shook his head twice in disapproval. A dead town of misguided peoples was not his wish. They were angry, hellbent, and wrong, but they were still people. His life did not outweigh all of theirs. 

He was hanged for murder before the rest of his party had left town.
