Obituary:

Jaune had a hard life. He was born into a poor family living in a war-torn nation. He lost both his parents at a young age and managed to survive by stealing whatever he could. Unlocking his magical potential gave Jaune the chance he needed to pull himself out of the gutter. Unfortunately, it landed him in prison where he met his stand-in father and role model, Mr. Farthing. 
Later in Jaune's life, he and adventures from other realms were summoned to an unknown world where they fought and lived together for months. Eventually, circumstances led Jaune to enter the Shadow Plane and come into contact with Tharizdun. He had to exchange his soul in order to return to his friends. There was a catch, however. Jaune had to corrupt his friends and bring them over to Tharizdun. Alas, while attempting to scare a town into worshiping the dark god, Jaune carved his symbol into a desk and began a ritual by accident.
The rest of his party survived the calamity with the blessing of the Raven Queen, but their trust in strangers has been forever weakened.
